A little late I know, but still worth it, I hope...
Here's the illustration I have prepared to celebrate my reaching a significant 100,000 pageviews here on dA (a bit more at this time, I believe!). It's a true marvel to look back upon my first months here two years ago, when I thought no one would bother watching my artwork to this... I'm truly blessed and I thank you all for the continued support and encouragement. I kept thinking what to do, what to do... and the number kept ringing in my head, so I decided to do something including it. As a matter of fact, I wanted to use it as a title for the image itself.
Keeping in tune with what's made me most recognised in the wide halls of deviant ART -the Dark Millenium of Warhammer 40,000- I bring you something which I hadn't tapped into before: The Imperial Guard. The fabled Hammer of the Emperor! I've always been a huge fan of the Imperial Guard and its troops, especially the Cadians, but I honestly felt I lacked the skills to do a good job of them until now. These are the most human part of the Imperium, the most fragile and valiant, the most fleeting and yet most important troops of the God-Emperor. And, as that's the case, I needed to really bring that aspect up: the toughness, the scars, the weather bitten armour and stained lasguns.
I hope I've done a good job, as usual, and let us toast to this 100,000 brave soldiers of mankind about to embark upon another Holy Crusade in His name!
Also, as a big fan of the Guards, I can't help but have a pantsfull of joy for this picture.
My only remark would be that that the three facial scars, on the three faces we see, is the left eye (so we can't help but "figure" that the fourth face that we don't see the left eye is probably also scarred xD)
Ho-oo yeah. I have been waiting for you to do an Imperial Guard themed piece for awhile now. And now you have, and it is great! The commissar is so bird like, sort of gives a feel of how they watch over the heavier feeling infantrymen. You really got the uniform spot-on excellent! The foremost guardsman has a nervous/ scared look on his face to me. Perhaps because the gaze of the Commissar has fallen to him. The numbers of soldiers really gives a sense to how wars are fought in the grimdarkness of the grim dark far furture. Just throw bodies at 'em! The busted up planet is pretty sweet. The Sentinels seem quite large and this to me is due to the fact that there is no continuation of the (facing it) right leg near the shoulder of the commissar. And alse, where are the tanks? That's all that's missing is some good ol' Leman Russes. A+ work.

now thats the bada** that killed my daemon prince with one shot. man did i get creamed on that battle....oh srry mumbling. anyways FANTASTIC PIC, even if it is guard!!
I actually prefer the Guard to the Astartes in the 40K novels. It's easier to relate to a normal person out on the front lines, than it is to a cybernetic power-armored warrior monk.
"It's time to kick ass and chew bublegum...and I'm all out'a gum".-Duke Nukem.

"We are here today reunited, to decide the fate not just of mankind, but of all the galaxy. We will see it burn and became just ashes. But in this moment of our great glory I wonder, who will be the brave one who will step in front of us just to fail."
In this article I'll talk about establishing a process of working on art that will help you turn out much better work without as much struggling or confusion.
