Artist's Comments

It's been a while, my friends, and not much has happened (well, or rather, much has happened, but not worthy of tales, for the time being) since my last update.
However, I've been working like crazy and this is one of the results (the one I can show!); following my latest project of rendering The Emperor and all of his astounding Sons from the Warhammer 40,000 mythos, I bring you the most beautiful of them all this time: Sanguinius, Primarch of the Blood Angels Chapter.
This Chapter is widely known because of the "Dawn of War" game, that has them as the main Chapter to crusade the galaxy and I must say I've always been attracted to their legend, that has some very interesting and haunting elements...
There are, obviously, many things I like in this image, but I particularly think the background came out quite alright, and the wings, which were very bland in the original. Speaking of which, here it is for your comparison and perusal:

As I was telling my client, I'm pouring a lot of myself into these illustrations and I think you can tell. That's why it's so hard for me to part from them, but I know they'll be in good hands.

I hope you enjoy it and let me know what you think as usual!

Until soon!

Nic.-

Beautfiul work. The background is striking, and the tears of blood on the shoulder-plates are a fantastic detail.

Yay Siggy! Or Sangie as some call him :)
The Blood Angels is one of my favorite chapters, and this tribute to their Primarch definately beats the old eversion out, but of course your art drastically improved since then. You retain your style but I can definately see some major differences for the better.

Oh *ahem* by the way, in the game 'Dawn of War' it's the 'Blood Ravens', but I'm not sure which chapter they descend from since it's never mentioned in the game.

Either way, fantastic piece Nic! :blowkiss:

Wow... even with the warm colour tones and angelic theme, I find this image spooky for some reason. Brrrr! Maybe it's his pensive, floating posture or how he seems more distant from the worlds in the background than your other characters have been.

Either way, it looks great and evokes a real gut reaction that I don't want to bother him! :)

This a real beauty. I agree this one is better than the previous version. The composition and color pallette are better. Plus the shoulder armour crying blood is sweeeet. I like the feeling of form and depth in the background. Thumbs up dude.
