It's been an awful long time since I last posted here and I've actually received some Notes regarding my "dissapearance" from dA these days. Those as well as the constant flood of favourites and comments I deeply apprecaite and thank. It's the best compliment I can get as an artist to be cherished not only because of said artwork but also at a personal level... I'll be writing a bit more about my situation in my Journal tonight.
The good news is that I'm still working like crazy and in-between commissions and delayed projects, I've conjured up yet another of my B&W pieces. It's amazing how these help me relieve stress and focus on what's important for me at a creative level. They challenge my designing, inkking and composition... in B&W you only have your lines to rely upon and they have to convey the most of what you're trying to say or you're lost. You'll notice that I'm getting more confident in texturising as well as adding more and more complex details with each passing image.
Also, I've noticed that my B&Ws tend to take me much more into the Fantasy realm than the Sci-Fi... I wonder why that is? Anyway, I'm ejoying these greatly and I hope to have more coming soon.
Let me know what you think as usual and hit that button if you think it's worth it!
I think black and white stays better for Fantasy rather than sci-fi because Fantasy always takes us to somewhere medieval or mythological, in the past, and we are all familiar with TV and cinema flashbacks being in B&W, but for sci-fi, it's almost like we WANT colour, we want to see everything in something new, something from the future, something that can exist, now in our minds, perhaps in the future in our hands. And with colour, it becomes easier to imagine it.
That's my opinion, don't know if you or anyone else agrees
And I definitely like the dragon necklace and the bone shoulders, gives her a more reptilian look
Here's hoping for everything you planned going well

Sweet cross-hatching! Love her defiant expression and white-on-black scales.
re: fantasy in B&W... I agree with Turain's comment. There's something mystical about black and white, something about unequivocal light and darkness and the old-school feel of it that really fits with fantasy. Sci fi fits more with slick computer perfection.
Which isn't to say I don't see great sci fi in traditional medium and fantasy in digital... but I feel what you mean. Interesting phenomenon.

Been lurking around for some time. I really like your line and enjoy seeing new works in my "deviation-inbox" Btw, have you looked at Franklin Booths's work? Illustration superstar in the 20's [link]fficial&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=no&tab=wi
There's certainly more black in this composition than your first black and whites. Always nice to have a 2/3rds kinda balance in positive and negative space. You have that down pretty well here. cheers. Loving how her body just kinda textures off at the bottom rather than an obvious frame line. I'd like to have seen that kind of technique carry up to the arm, but it's still very nice. Life's tough. Haven't been on DA much lately either. I hope things work out for you mate.Keep up the black and white. It'll force you to think about composition in ways that color might not have previously inspired. Looking forward to more of your work as always.

Maybe it wasn't a shark, maybe it was a deer.
A deer? I hate to break it to you but deers don't have dorsal fins or friggin' razor-sharp teeth
It was totally sharky...Complete!

Proud to be an optimistic cynic!
Fairy tales are more then true -
Not because they tell us dragons exist
But because they tell us they can be beaten.
