Dear watchers and watcherettes...
I hope you don't mind my spamming your message centers! I thought it'd be a good omen to upload two illustrations today instead of one.
This is a commission for the same client that ordered these two:
It's always a joy to work for this client. She has quite a few novels under her arm, with rich characters and very cool themed stories. We've dabbled in norse myth and Fantasy with her already, so we only had to tackle Sci-Fi. This is the result.
There's a lot I like in this illustration, but perhaps the best part, for me, is the fact that I shamelessly used a combination of styles in designing this ship's bridge that has made this sci-fi work embrace The Dark Millenium of Warhammer 40,000, with the industrial grunge of Free Mars and a touch here and there of other great influences. To me, designing ins't so much as trying to be original and new, but rather trying to channel all the great works that have come before us, adding our personal view of them. Hopefully, that twist of style is what'll make people see it as something fresh.
So, enjoy it, as usual and let me know what you think!
