As most of you know, Warhammer 40,000 is one of my passions and the subject of my (modest) 'reknown'.
I've done a lot of pieces set in this universe and extenuating as it is sometimes, the reward is always priceless. Works such as these here posted, with their intricacies and huge ammount of detail are extenuating but worth every minute invested in them. I can only hope to do justice to the background of this awesome setting and its relentless battles.
The brief for these commissions, which are meant to be shown side by side, was deceivingly simple: I was to depict a battle of apocaliptic dimensions, with a loyalist side and a chaotic side, both pouring all of their might onto the other.
Chaos is something I don't usually get to draw, so I love it when I'm asked to! I think one of the things I like most about Chaos is that its soldiers and forces used to be loyalists, so their equipment is a distortion of these. A corrupted and decayed version of the Imperium's best; and of course, adding to that powerful daemons, mutations and all manner of psychic abominations, they're full of fantastic details to render.
I've always loved the Black Legion, so naturally, there's a Space Marine sporting its heraldry there and also some Emperor's Children and Chaos Guard. The War Hounds and Reaver are also meant to be as intimidating and huge as their imperial counterparts, which I hope I've managed to convey.
I hope you enjoy these and let me know what you think, as usual!
