Artist's CommentsIt seems my updates are coming scarcely these days, but you'll read all about that in my Journal. The short story is: on top of being swamped with work, I've also had the annoyance of experiencing a week-long Internet crash, so... However, all that time I could've spent surfing the web has bore some interesting fruit, with my finishing some things I was quite behind on. This latest Primarch being a perfect example. Ferrus Manus was always - and ever since I got into the Dark Millenium - my favourite Primarch. There was something about him, his strength, resilience and overall essence that (to me) represented the 41st Millenium perfectly. Perhaps it was his metal hands, crafted in the fires of a volcano whilst he fought a C'Tan; or the rust and decay of Medusa, in constant strife for survival; or his Legion's allegiance to the Adeptus Mechanicus and its dark technology... everything conspired to make Ferrus a very important figure for me. Thus, this image is one of my favourites in this project. As you'll notice, the armour on this Primarch is much less ornate than his brothers's, much more 'utilitarian' and blocky, because I wanted to keep Ferrus true to his essence; it being his faith in his own strength above all things. That also led me to render his arms in such a way as to make them a pivotal part of his design. I also kept the decoration very crude and tribal, as a nod to Medusa. I think this one is a worthy succesor to my first depiction of this great legend of the Imperium and a huge improvement on it as well: [link] I hope you enjoy it! Nic.- PS.. It's my first time using this new Critique feature here on dA, so feel free to add yours! © Games Workshop Ltd. 2009 |

Fairy tales don't tell children the dragons exist. They know the dragons exist. Fairy tales tell children the dragons can be killed.
-G. K. Chesterton
A very cool picture (in more than one sense of the word), but where the spots of red and his facial skin really stand out. Also, the gold in the background brings some (much needed) warmth into the picture. Yet that doesn't take away from the coolness, which in Ferrus' case is good.
Damn, I really need to dig out my old First Founding Chapter Approved articles and re-read the history of the Iron Hands.
Either way, the exhaust pipes on his back brings my thoughts to a dreadnought. Also, he has the awesome chin of Jay Leno!
I definitely liked his stern look, the small skulls in the chains and, of course, his metal hands, the whole reason for the name Ferrus Manus.
Oh, and I loved the winged skull with the gear on the forehead on his shoulder pad, the mark of his dedication to the Emperor and his allegiance with the Adeptus Mechanicus
Another fantastic work of art, and I hope to see more in the (very near please?) future

>> Eclipsing power is, at times, both the instrument of demons, but also of gods.
>> You know what scares me about school? You can't write "Studying" without "dying"
I have a few friends that play 40k - I can't really get into it - but I do love hearing about all of the people and stories.

I don't like the word hero, it doesn't suit me, I guess you can consider me a villain that fights other villains.~ Don Paolo
Read Don Paolo: TSoV --> [link]
I highly recommend anything from the Horus heresy series, as well as the Eisenhorn novels.
