I'm going to do a double-feature today and the first illustration to go up depicts something that's not been seen in my Gallery for some time now: Warhammer 40,000! Despite my working on almost a ridiculous number of images related to the Dark Millenium -mostly very delayed commissions-, I sometimes barely get to show them over here (or anywhere else, for that matter) in the frenzy of deadlines and keeping up with projects. This piece here was recently completed for some fine folks organising a wargaming event, obviously focused on Pre-Heresy Era Imperium, a time within the canon I'm most fond of. Of course, what Legion would be best suited than Horus' fabled Luna Wolves to represent this glorious legendary period; and against Orks! A great subject matter all around.
For those following my work for some time, you will have noticed I've improved certain areas of it, like separating background and figures through the use of grayscale, as well as anatomy and dynamics in general regarding composition. I'm happy to see evolution and I hope you see it too.
Simple detail not everyone will notice, but you drew the Ork with 4 fingers. PERFECT. It adds just a wee bit of the alien xeno feel to them, instead of looking like green humanoid apes.
Im wondering however if the ork could'nt have been a bit darker,to add some more depth between the two opposing forces :S I love the white armor,i know myself how difficult it is to work with, yet yours always comes out clean. Also,im still amazed at how you dont hesitate with flat black (like the armor edging and the bolt pistols) with no highlights. Its a brick of black, but it works so much better i think that if you highlighted the edge
Haha, just to mix things up, when my number comes up for the commission, I'll do something not-40k related instead, lest you get burned out from all the grim-darkey.
As always you bring the best for us to see! love your work! Do you have any of the following perhaps? A facebook page or twitter? I will wait in anticipation till you have your own website!
Ganger-style in the Grim Dark?
