Long time, no post... *le sigh* Life's been busy as usual and there's not much room left for drawings of my own. I'm knee deep in commissions and other projects and I hardly relax, except when I go roleplaying, which has proven to be an excellent place to develop various sketches that later end up in this.
This illustration marks my first (public) foray into anthropomorphic characters. I was never too interested in animals in general, because I find them hard to draw; thus, humanising something that was hard already seemed like something ridiculous! But playing the game, I found myself itching to draw a Tai Warrior and a Rhino in combat. These races are part of 's Fantasy world in which are playing. They're alien species trying to slowly conquer the planet we're living in and of course, we have to stop 'em. However, the Rhinos and Tai have different motivations and are at war themselves in their own homeworld; thus, this scene. There IS one of our party who is a Rhino himself and from whom I drew inspiration for the armour seen here. Check it out: [link]
So, I hope you enjoy this one as much as I did. There's a lot of dynamism here as well as really cool anatomies that I thought would never come to be. I especially like the fur on the Tai and you'll recognise I'm getting back to my use of restricted palettes, which has proven to be really helpful to reinforce my style.
Let me know what you think and see you all soon!
Nic.-
PS.. Thank you all for voting in the Poll I put up last week! It's been really helpful and I hope to have news about some other ideas soon!
I love the dynamic setting in this piece and the way all the colours fit together just right. Also, catgirls with armour and a sword are always delightful
I like it! I'm actually quite surprised to hear you'd have trouble drawing anthropomorphic characters.... especially considering how well this turned out.
This somewhat reminds me of a card game I currently play. Magic the Gathering as it were. There was one set where two different races were featured, these were known as the Rhox (anthro rhino's) and the Nactl (Anthro cats). This scene reminds me of that, because both races seemed to fight each other in the background info.
I love the limited pallette, and I love how the Cat's eyes are just like your ladies' eyes in your other work! It draws them together really nicely and it's great to see a resonsance coming through. I really love this piece! Especially seeing as I love cats so damn much!! Great work Nic!!
Questions must be raised... what is the difference between Anthro and Furry? A lovely piece, the cat-woman is making me produce pheromones like a donkey on heat!
Thank you for sharing!
