Artist's Comments

I usually don't indulge in patriotic depictions (especially when they're not even related to my own land), but... damn! Captain America's 1940s design from The Ultimates, is the s**t!
As you are well aware, I love Pulp, and this design has that written all over it. I had a debt to read The Ultimates (Bryan Hitch being a personal hero of mine and the main influence behind my 'widescreen' style) and I have finally done so, thanks to ~IADM, who had the first paperbacks.
I loved the story, the art, everything about the book. I loved it so much that I could bypass my ad infinitum opinion that Captain America is the biggest piece of propaganda in the planet and do this. But that's just how they treat him in the book: a sort of used up symbol to stir the naïvete and past glories of a country that has long lost them.
It has been a long time since I read a proper comic-book and I'm glad I broke the habit with this one.

Thus, here is my take on the Cap, in all his pulp-y 1940s glory. I particularly like how fast this one came out, the rain effects, and the overall 'comeback' to black, white, tones and a colour for me (another thing I hadn't done in a while!) and I take the opportunity to also show you all that MiniMasterpieces can be widescreen ;)...

I hope you enjoy!

Nic.-

It's amazing how your colouring techinique brings out both the hard edged-ness of the armour and the softness of the smoke. It's quite a pleasure to look at :)

Fantastic! He looks like a WW1 pilot!

Goodness, I hardly recognized Captain America. I must have become too detached from comic books. Nevermind that he has little in similarity with his modern look.
I suppose I like this one better. The helmet makes me think a lot of Patton.
Captain America was indeed quite possibly the most obscenely obvious propoganda ploy I've ever seen, and that's from the issue covers alone; stereotypical caricatures of enemy soldiers always put me off.
Now, your painting -- and I know I always say this -- is absolutely wonderful. There's a overall sense of action and chaos, and I absolutely adore it.

Oh yeah, very badass.

Excellent. I also think Cpt. America is a propaganda machine, but the WWII Ultimates version of him is wicked.

For every action there is an equal and opposite government program.

You're always mindful of your words as you're as mindful towards your artworks, thus being able to render such amazing quality works.
Captain America, yes, he look different from those I read in those comics.
If you need approval on the quality of this artwork, it'll be a thumbs up from me.
