'Well?' said the man clad in black looking at the shining helmet of the rocket strapped figure standing next to him atop the exploding zeppelin.
'Well what!?' replied the rocket man with a certain tone of disagreement at the recently fired guns in the hands of the man clad in black.
'I can't fly' said The Shadow. 'You can. But, then again, you don't have guns. A perfect match.'
'Hrm', muttered Rocketeer. 'Let's go before this thing goes down completely. How many do you think we can take down?'
'As many as we can' said The Shadow. And his laughter filled the skies as the boost of rocket power carried him away.

Another piece of pulp for all of you out there who enjoyed my last two: [link] [link] .
And a big thanks to Dave Stevens for creating such a wonderful character as The Rocketeer! I hope I've done it justice...

Enjoy it!

Very nice. I said it would be! And I like how you've altered the hat. :)

Thank you very much for the compliments (and trust!), my friend. And indeed the hat looks better now than it did in my original draft.

It's a really interesting picture. The grey tones are done really well. At first I thought that the picture suffered from not having the explosion in colour, but it really looks very good. And I love the overcast sky, in different grey shades. It shows a lot of skill that you can use the same colours in Rocketeer's metalwork as in the clouds (or the Zeppelin) and it all looks different. The red is used to wonderful, striking effect - it's really one of the better examples of your limited palette, and it's a prime example of the continuing improvement in your work.

This piece looks like it'd be very suited to being a magazine cover. In the space at the top, you can imagine something like "AMAZING TALES OF THE 20TH CENTURY!" and then in the left "The SHADOW meets the ROCKETEER!" - Perhaps you should hold a contest. ;)

One 'flaw' (and it's in inverted commas because it doesn't detract from the picture as a whole) [But perhaps Rocketeer's hands should've been a different colour to Shadow's suit. But that's perhaps because of the downside to your limited palette.

(I really liked the 'hrm' in your excerpt. Suits Shadow's face!)
It's Rocketeer (you'll end up with tons of wasteful info otherwise, :) ). Thanks for the compliments, mate!

Two of the greatest Pulp icons together at last. I have always wanted to see someone do a story where they team up a ton of the pulp characters. The Rocketeer, The Shadow, The Phantom, etc. Make them all part of this underground network.

Great job.

very cool. :) not often you (or rather I) see the Rocketeer these days. :)
Two good oldskool movies combined in ones...Lovelly
Really like the way you work on your skies (or the general smoky parts)
