I think I've stated more times than I care to count that I'm a HUGE fan of Juan Giménez, the artist behind (amongst other awesome comics) 'La Casta de los Metabarones' ('The Saga of The Metabarons'). His painterly style, his amazingly detailed approach to everything he does and his out-of-this-world designs and settings are mind-blowing and beyond inspiring. Looking at his books I get an urge to draw that is always a good omen of what's to materialise on the paper.
These past weeks, being exhausted by work, I felt like I needed a bit of inspiration to keep the pace strong. Thus, perusing the bookshelf at home I found The Saga of the Metabarons and couldn't say no to my heroes, Jodorowski and Gimenez.
Of course after pages and pages of such incredible artwork and story, once I sat down and started drawing, Nameless The Last Metabaron came up and I had to pay tribute to him; even between all of the ceaseless work and delayed commissions, it's important to do something for yourself as an artist or else all of your artwork suffers from stagnation. The whole composition, colors and atmosphere of this piece came out so naturally that I can't help but feel very satisfied at the result.
This illustration might spur some more of the rest of the dinasty, but work comes first, so enjoy this one.
I hope everyone has a great week and see you soon!
PS.. If you have never read these books, please do yourself a favor and get a hold of them in any way you can!
