Me again? So soon...? I bet you didn't see this one coming! :D
Neither did I, truth be told, when ~Ravenkeeper approached me again about a commission.
He said he wanted me to depict one of the most famous characters of the Dark Millenium; the protagonist of the most praised saga from Black Library yet and one of Dan Abnett's most excellent works within the Warhammer 40,000 franchise: Inquisitor Gregor Eisenhorn. And not only that. He also wanted his full retinue, past and present, dead or alive in there as well...
I was, quite literally, scared to death. Even more so taking into account the fact that I've yet to read the books (yes, shame on me!).
Luckily, Keon was there to guide me every step of the way, quoting the books to let me know how the characters looked and just what their essence was, but carefully avoiding giving much away so I could still enjoy the read when I got around to it.

Thus, this illustration, which I think is (along with my latest productions) one of my best. We started tossing ideas back and forth and finally decided on something very powerful: to have Inquisitor Eisenhorn looking at a shattered glass through all the years behind him, into his own young self's eyes. This reflection would also show him those he'd lost, cared and knew for so long too, reminding him of the cold presence of the daemon Cherubael beside him, his accursed current company.
The palette was carefully chosen and I'm happy to say Keon trusted me to go fully grey on the glass in contrast to the colour of the "present", so as to accentuate the reflection effect and the "past essence" of the characters portrayed.
I could go on about all the little details I love, but I think I best leave that up to you, my dear fellows.

I hope you enjoy and tell me what you thought as usual!

Nic.-

Wow...the entire three books just went through my mind...like a 'I saw my life flash before my eyes' kinda moment.

I really love that you included Medea's father, you always have your little ways of adding that extra 'oomph' to a picture.
Bequin looks gorgeous, and I like Aemos's sly smirk.

It amazes me how frighteningly accurate Cherubal is to how he is shown in the Inquisitor's handbook, 'somebody' has been looking up for refference :D

...alright, which demon did you sell your soul to for this talent? Because NO human being can make THIS MUCH awesomeness one after another.
Unless.......are you the God Emperor himself?

Please stop talking...

...I have had too much of the Stupid today. Please wait until tomorrow to say these things so my tolerance has refreshed.

Emperador bendito... Es impresionante.
Cuando he visto la miniatura de imagen he reconocido que era Eisenhorn de inmediato.
La expresión de la personalidad e individualidad de cada acólito es fascinante...

I need to get back to reading this, such a great story. I recognize Ravenor and the old man who's name I forget.

This is most definitely one of my favorites of yours, you've out done yourself.

When trouble arises and things look bad, there is always one
individual who perceives a solution and is willing to take command. Very often, that individual is an idiot.
:iconcomrade-k-rad:
Bravo! If there was a "Superfave" I'd give it to you on this one! You really need to rad these and the Ravenor books; that was an awesome summer.
Just superb work, everything about it is great.
But I must say, the non reflection of the Inquisitors' clothing is quite perturbatory.

>>You'll get that one soon when you start reading.

Wow. A very poweful image. I can't imagine how honored you must be as a WH40k fan to be asked to do an picture like this. But it's good to see you were up to the challenge. Wonderful work.

Eisenhorn is a classic.

This is amazing. I really think this is the best possible representation of the characters I've seen... well, ever.

I'm trying to nitpick it, but I can only see 1 tiny, inconsequential thing, that I'm not even going to mention, as it doesn't matter in the least.

Amazing work. I hope you do a print of it, there's a ton of people that would pick that up.
