Description

Noun - Singular: pulp magazine
Plural: pulp magazines
1. A magazine made with inexpensive paper and printing, containing shocking or sensationalist fiction by low-paid writers.

Sometimes I wish I'd been born in the 40s; especially when I get asked to do these wondeful commissions on characters I have a deep (albeit intuitive) love and care for. I never read much of the original pulps these great personas stemmed from, but I've bought paperbacks and hunted a bit on the Internet so I have a great fondness for these adventures.

Many, many, many of you asked for it, and so here (thanks to *erlkoenig) you have it: the inimitable Doc Savage; and who's he up against? None other than the infamous Fu-Manchu! Well, him and two of his thugs, being quickly dispatched by the Man of Bronze, of course...
There are a lot of thing sthat came out looking really nice and I tried certain techniques (especially on the skin tones) that I was afraid would mess things up. Fortunately, you'll agree they haven't.
As for details that I pick out, I think the skin tones are my favourite part. I managed to make Doc Savage's skin look tanned enough for him to look like the "Man of Bronze" without his skin looking like actual BRONZE (which was something I always hated about his latest renditions; it looks as though he was made of metal, when he was supposed to be an idealised human being). The poses of the thugs being dispatched is also something I really like, and the whole composition really took a lot of dynamism enhancing the pencils. Everything conspiring to make this one look like a true pulp magazine cover.

But enough from me, as I say! Let's hear it from you and what you think!

Enjoy!
