Artist's Comments

Well, as some of you have read in my latest Journal ([link]), one of my greatest inspirations passed away last Thursday, which came as a terrible shock for the argentine comic community, and also to all those who knew him for his last works internationally (for DC comics and Wildstorm, to be precise). The man I'm talking about was Carlos Meglia and I could go on saying a lot of things about him; most probably, all of them regarding how talented he was, how hard-working and how fine a person too. But that'd take away from the most important fact of them all, at least in my eyes: he inspired me to do what I'm doing.
It was the first issue I saw of his strip Irish Coffee in an argentine newspaper, what made me decide to start working in that particular style. I studied Meglia's work intensely since then, ever adding details of his own hand into my pieces, but ever reaching for my own distinctive look.
Today, I'm happy to say that I have a style, but it wouldn't be what it is, had not carlos influenced me like he did. And if I get even ONE of my watchers to go check his art, then I think I'm paying him the best tribute I can think of... apart from this piece, of course.

The character you see here is Cybersix, created by him and writer Carlos Trillo. Check out what Wikipedia has on her typing "Cybersix (Argentina)" in the search function (I would've posted a link, but DA is misbehaving tonight...)

I hope I've done it justice and Carlos, wherever you are... ¡Gracias, gigante! Fuiste muy grosso...

:salute:

This was one of my favorite cartoons as a child, and when I got older and discoverd the internet, I found translations of the comic.

To this day it's one of my all time favorites. I cried when I found out he had passed.

Thank you for doing such a wonderful tribute peice.

It's always great to find other fans of Carlos's work, and especially something as good as Cybersix (in my opinion).

I was shocked with the news too, but I'm grateful that I could take all that his art gave to me and pour it on a piece that did his life justice.

Thank you!
