Think about it for a second: he's the Ruler of 70% of the planet, which (to be honest with ourselves) we know nothing of. We have no idea what creatures may await in the depths of the oceans, nor how many of the species we think are peaceful wouldn't become harmful if summoned appropriately. Heck, even one of the great Old Ones lives in the deep sea awaiting his return. It wouldn't be very cool if Aquaman unleashed Cthulhu from R'lyeh, wouldn't it? So, no messing with this guy. No mocking his powers and his costume... or else!
That's the thought behind this image today, watchers and watcherettes. I always liked the costume of Aquaman and I saw in the recent overhaul of DC that he hadn't been touched much, design wise; because to me, Arthur was always about his persona. A persona that should be very dangerous because of the above stated. Thus, in this illustration - quite dark mind you - we see a couple of those creatures that we might not be aware of at all, rising from the deep at the behest of their lord.
I've always been enamoured of the ocean; and I have a deep respect and awe of it, so to me, Aquaman embodies that magnificence and majesty of the sea. And its ever changing, unpredictable, wrathful tides.
I don't know how much more time will I be able to take off of my schedule to vent some steam and upload here, but I'll do my best to at least do one more update before the weekend.
you know i think he is powerful enough to take on superman .but dc always like to not make super man look bad even tho other super heroes can kill him like aquaman, captain marvel, and captain atom they just need good writers. to bad severe comics don't have them they be one of the most powerful heroes in the severe universe.
Aquaman is widely regarded as a joke of a superhero with silly powers. I stand in enjoyable awe at your ability to totally reverse this perception with just one image and a handful of paragraphs.
Bravo, friend.

VERY impressive piece of art, but really, Aquaman is the ruler of a single nation within that 70% of the planet and 99.9% of what he can summon dies horribly when out of the water. A superhero that could mind control birds would also look mighty useless if 95% of stories happened underwater.
And incidentally, Cthulhu is NOT a sea creature. He's a dimensional monstrosity from outer space that happens to be currently taking a nap under the ocean.
I love how you make his scale shirt actually look like a scale shirt. most of the other renditions i have seen in the comics make it looks like a cheap sweater with scales sewn in. Plus I love the way you actually make him look intimidating.
Bravo, friend.
